(4.47) My minor child needs a service that requires me to pay a copay, coinsurance, or deductible. Can the regional center pay for it?

Yes, if you meet the requirements described below for minors.

The insurance copays, coinsurance, or deductibles associated with the service or support must be included in your minor child’s IPP or IFSP. Also, payment is needed to ensure that your child receives the service. [1]Section 4659(a).

These criteria must also all be met:

  1. Your child is covered by a health care service plan or health insurance policy.
  2. Your (family) annual gross income is at or below 400 percent of the federal poverty level.
  3. There is no other third-party responsible for the cost of the service. [2]Section 4659.1(a)(1-3).
