(4.49) What if our family has an income over 400 percent of the federal poverty level?

For families that have an annual income above 400 percent of the federal poverty level, the regional center may still pay copays or coinsurance associated with the service or support. But you must meet different conditions.

If the service is for your minor child, the service must be included in your child’s IPP or IFSP. Also, the service is needed to keep and maintain your child in the home. [1]Section 4659.1(d).

Finally, (whether your child is a minor or an adult) you must prove that one or more of these applies:

  1. An extraordinary event occurred that impacts your ability to pay the copay or coinsurance, or to meet your child’s care and supervision needs.
  2. A catastrophic loss (like natural disasters or accidents) that temporarily impacts your ability to pay copays or coinsurance.
  3. One or more of your children has significant unreimbursed medical costs. [2]Section 4659.1(d)(1-3).
