Chapter 11: The Medi-Cal Developmental Disability Waiver

Chapter 11: The Medi-Cal Developmental Disability Waiver

This chapter gives you information about the Medi‑Cal Home- and Community-Based Services Developmental Disability (DD) Waiver. This includes what the waiver is, who is eligible, and what services it has.

This information is mostly taken from a state law called the Lanterman Act, which begins at section 4500 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code. We give you the section of this state law where you can find the information we wrote. You may have to look at the law to get the services you need. When you see the word “Section(s),” followed by a number and no other information, it means section(s) of the Lanterman Act. To read the Lanterman Act, click here.

This chapter also has information from the federal Medicaid program. You may have to look at the federal regulations to get the services you need. Citations that look like this: 42 C.F.R. § refer to the federal regulations.

This chapter also has information from All-County Welfare Director Letters (ACWDLs). These are letters from the state to the counties about rules the counties have to follow in health programs. You can find these here: https://www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/medi-cal/eligibility/Letters/Pages/ACWDLbyyear.aspx
