The goals of respite are to:
- help the family maintain the child at home
- provide safe care and supervision in the absence of the family members
- relieve the family of the constantly demanding responsibility of care
- attend to the child’s basic needs and activities normally provided by family members during those hours.[1]Section 4690.2(a).
The number of respite hours you need will depend on your family’s situation. You may need more hours if necessary to keep your child living at home.
