(5.8) Who are the Clients’ Rights Advocates and Volunteer Advocacy Service Coordinators in facilities?

DDS contracts with the SCDD to provide Clients’ Rights Advocacy services to people in Porterville Developmental Center and Canyon Springs.[1]Section 4433.5. There is a Clients’ Rights Advocate (CRA) who can tell you your legal rights. This means your right to evaluations and an IPP that lists the services and supports you need to leave the facility and live in the community. The CRA will advocate for you while you are in the facility.

Porterville and Canyon Springs also have a Volunteer Advocacy Service Program. If you want someone to help or represent you at an IPP meeting when a community placement is being considered, the SCDD can appoint a Volunteer Advocate to help you.[2]Section 4541(a)(3).
