(5.19) What is a “stakeholder organization,” and how can I join one?

A “stakeholder organization” is a state organization that represents the interests of “consumers, family members, service providers, and statewide advocacy organizations.”[1]Section 4512(k). DDS or legislative committees often ask stakeholder organizations to give their opinions on important system policy issues.

Some stakeholders are self-advocacy organizations, like People First of California, Disability Rights California, and service provider organizations. You can join a group that represents your views and try to make a difference.
